Host a Healthy Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo
Here's a low-calorie option you can enjoy and stay true to your diet commitments.

Cinco de Mayo, aka May the fifth, commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over France at the 1862 Battle of Puebla. And 155 years later, celebrations are still going strong. Parades and folk dancing are both big components of the holiday, but typically the biggest tribute to Mexican culture and heritage is through the food. Now before you start thinking of excuses to bow out of this year’s festivities so you can stick to your diet goals, we have some effective strategies that will not only allow you to participate, but will make you want to host a get-together of your own.

When planning your CDM menu, you can easily stick with the classics. Guacamole, tacos and flirty fruity drinks . . . check, check and check! Guacamole itself is a very clean food and super easy to make. Ripe avocados, lime juice, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions and done! The catch here is what you’re eating your guacamole with. Toss the salty tortilla chips and opt for baked pita bread. It still makes for a decadent treat.

The beauty of tacos is the combinations are endless. Here’s a low-calorie option you can enjoy and stay true to your diet commitments.
